Sub-Adults actions and feeding techniques resemble those of their mother's. A sow will chase her young off between 2 and 4 years when she is ready to mate again. This can be a traumatic event, as a mother bear will often use force to get her cubs to leave. The bears pictured here are siblings, they are 3 years old and this is their first season away from their mother.
