Bears will often tolerate one another in areas where food is abundant, such as salmon streams during peak feeding periods.
Bears are normally denned in the winter so there is no significant feeding.
In the spring, they emerge from their dens and stay in the high country where their diet consists of sedges, grasses and other herbaceous vegetation.
Some bears will approach the coast during this time and forage for carrion and seaweed.
Most bears will not journey down from the high country after leaving their den until early June, just before the salmon begin to run.
